# Supported transmissions
2
IOcan is designed to operate OEM automatic and dual-clutch transmissions outside of their original vehicle environment. Support varies depending on transmission type, TCU version, and firmware compatibility.
3
4
This page lists transmissions that are currently supported or planned for support.
5
6
For each transmission family, dedicated documentation pages describe wiring, CAN communication, and configuration requirements.
7
8
## ZF 8HP
9
10
The ZF 8HP family is currently the most mature platform supported by IOcan. These transmissions are widely used in BMW and other OEM applications and rely heavily on CAN communication with the vehicle.
11
12
IOcan provides protocol emulation and signal translation required for standalone operation.
13
14
Supported capabilities include:
15
16
• standalone transmission operation
17
• integration with standalone ECUs
18
• paddle shifter and sequential shifter control
19
• diagnostic access to the transmission control unit
20
• reading diagnostic trouble codes
21
• monitoring adaptation values
22
23
Supported documentation:
24
25
[[8HPxx_connections]]
26
[[BMW F30 Gateway connection guide]]
27
28
Additional documentation may include vehicle-specific wiring guides.
29
30
## BMW Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)
31
32
Support for BMW dual-clutch transmissions is under development.
33
34
These transmissions require a complex communication environment involving engine torque coordination and driver interface modules.
35
36
Planned capabilities include:
37
38
• standalone transmission operation
39
• CAN-based driver input integration
40
• integration with standalone ECUs
41
• diagnostic access
42
43
Documentation will be added as development progresses.
44
45
## Porsche PDK
46
47
Support for Porsche PDK transmissions is planned.
48
49
PDK transmissions use a tightly integrated vehicle communication architecture and require protocol translation to operate outside of the original Porsche vehicle environment.
50
51
Planned capabilities include:
52
53
• standalone operation
54
• paddle shifter control
55
• ECU integration
56
• diagnostic communication
57
58
Future Platforms
59
60
Additional transmission platforms may be supported in the future depending on demand and development progress.
61
62
Examples of potential platforms include:
63
64
• additional ZF 8HP variants
65
• other OEM dual-clutch transmissions
66
• newer CAN-based automatic transmissions
67
68
Compatibility Notes
69
70
Transmission compatibility depends on several factors:
71
72
• transmission hardware version
73
• TCU firmware version
74
• vehicle platform the transmission originated from
75
• available CAN communication signals
76
77
Some transmissions may require custom configuration or firmware support.
78
79
Always verify compatibility before beginning a project.
